Fifth Western Evolutionary Biology Meeting 2013
The Fifth Western Evolutionary Biology Meeting (WEB5) was hosted at the University of California, Irvine campus this past May 11th, 2013. The conference featured scientists and graduate students from major universities in the western continental United States, a majority from the University of California and California State University systems.
The Western Evolutionary Biology Biologist of the Year Prize, or WEBY, is awarded by The Network for Experimental Research on Evolution (NERE), with UCLA Associate Director Jay Phelan chairing the award committee. The Prize is to be awarded annually to an individual from the west of North America (including western Canada and Mexico) who has contributed significantly to the scientific study of biological evolution. This year’s WEBY nominee is Dr. David Wake of the University of California, Berkeley for his incredible work on Salamanders. More information about Dr. Wake can be found on his laboratory website.
